Picatelier is a collaboration between the Hypercodex research project and Pica magazine. The School of Design community was introduced to risography in a workshop based on the notion of programmed randomness, on the theme of caprice. The RISO technique was appropriate for its random results due to its prints, all of which are made unique by the shift in the positioning of the paper and therefore the colours from one time to the next. To frame the experiment, the participants were given a sheet of paper with instructions that were randomly associated with each other. The parameters imposed determined the colour, the screen, the proportion of space used by the visual, and the type of image to be represented (abstract or figurative).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hypercodex\u2019s lines of research were presented by Amandine Alessandra before the activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop was led by \u00c8ve Lag\u00fce, a member of Hypercodex, who shared her knowledge of risography with us with passion. The participants\u2019 creations were made using collage techniques, painting and drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each composition was made within a 9.5″ by 9.5″ square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works were then scanned and layered in different RISO runs, with a different colour for each layer. The result is a series of accidental images generated by combining productions in layers in a random fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
